Learn about the history of The New School through the lens of the important site-specific works of art that grace the Greenwich Village campus. From the historic 1931 José Clemente Orozco fresco cycle to the most recent neon commission for the new University Center designed by SOM, twelve site specific artworks in The New School Art Collection serve as focal points and markers of The New School's rich institutional identity. Join New School Art Collection curator, Silvia Rocciolo, on a walking tour. We will meet at the landmark Joseph Urban building at 66 West 12th, see works by José Clemente Orozco, Camilo Egas, Martin Puryear and Michael Van Valkenburgh, Gonzalo Fonseca and Dave Muller, then to Arnhold Hall at 55 West 13th to see the Sol LeWitt, Kara Walker, and Brian Tolle murals. We will conclude the tour at the University Center at 63 Fifth Avenue to see the most recent commissions by Alfredo Jaar, Glenn Ligon, Rita McBride and Agnes Denes. The tour lasts about 1 hour 15 minutes.
